The Sacred Month of Rajab in January 2025: A Time for Reflection and Devotion

Rajab is the month of Allah, Shaban is my month and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah“. [The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), according to al-Suyuti]

Rajab is the month of forgiveness. This is the month of Isra and Miraj, the night journey of the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had been visiting his first cousin, Umm Hani’s home, he prayed the night prayer and slept. That night, in her home, Angel Jibreel came to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and took him on the miraculous journey to Jerusalem and the ascension to the Heavens (Israa and Miraj).

Rajab is also the month of preparation for Ramadan as it falls two months before Ramadan. After Rajab comes Shaban and then Ramadan begins.

The 1st, 15th and 27th days of Rajab are nights of prayer and forgiveness in Islam. Many pious Muslims and Sufis also fast on these days.

In 2025, the sacred Islamic month of Rajab began on January 1st, aligning with the 1st of Rajab in the lunar calendar.

We all know about the significance of the blessed night of 27th Rajab (Isra and Miraj). But did you know about 15th Rajab?

The 15th of day of Rajab is particularly significant as prayers offered on the night of January 14th, 2025 (i.e., the 15th Rajab night) are considered to be especially heard by Allah. If you have a specific need or supplication, this is a highly recommended time to pray.

When is the 15th of Rajab?

The 15th of Rajab falls on January 15th, 2025.

It’s important to note that, according to Islamic tradition, the lunar day begins at sunset of the previous day. Therefore, the 15th of Rajab begins at sunset (Maghrib) on January 14th and ends just before sunset on January 15th.

The Importance of 15th of Rajab

According to tradition, when Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) invoked Allah: “O my Lord! Can you inform me of the most beloved of the days and the time to You?”

Allah stated that: “The most beloved of the days to Me is the 15th of Rajab. Whosoever wants to approach Me through fast, prayer and alms and performs worship, I’ll definitely give him whatever he wishes. If he asks for pardon, I’ll definitely forgive him. O Adam! There is no reward other than jannah for the one who spends the 15th of Rajab keeping his chastity, giving Zakat, fasting and dhikr.” (Nuzhat-ul Majalis)

With regard to the prayers of the 15th night of Rajab, it is said that:

“The 15th night of Rajab is the night which Allah spoke with Hazrat Musa (peace be upon him) and raised Hazrat Idris (peace be upon him) to heaven. This night, Allah addresses the angels who are in charge of His slaves books of deeds: “Examine their books and erase all their sins and write rewards instead.” (Nuzhat-ul Majalis)

It is considered good practice to take a bath and wear clean clothes and offer extra nafl Salah on this night.
